Avodart

by GlaxoSmithKline (GSK)

Avodart is an oral treatment for benign prostatic hyperplasia (enlarged prostate) available through the GSK Patient Assistance Program.

What is Avodart?

Avodart (dutasteride) is a 5-alpha reductase inhibitor approved for the treatment of symptomatic benign prostatic hyperplasia (BPH) — enlarged prostate — in adult men. By blocking the conversion of testosterone to dihydrotestosterone (DHT), Avodart reduces prostate size, improves urine flow, and reduces the risk of acute urinary retention and the need for BPH-related surgery. It is taken once daily as a soft gelatin capsule.
