Humira
by AbbVie
Humira (adalimumab) costs $6,000–$7,000/month without coverage. AbbVie's myAbbVie Assist program offers free Humira for qualifying uninsured patients. Learn how to afford Humira today.
Humira (adalimumab) is a biologic medication made by AbbVie. It is one of the world's best-selling drugs and belongs to a class called TNF inhibitors — medications that reduce inflammation by blocking tumor necrosis factor (TNF), a protein that drives inflammation in autoimmune diseases.
Without insurance, Humira costs between $6,000 and $7,000 per month, making it one of the most expensive medications available. Fortunately, AbbVie offers significant assistance programs for patients who qualify.
How to Afford Humira
Affording Humira depends on your insurance status:
- Uninsured patients who meet income requirements can receive Humira at no cost through the myAbbVie Assist patient assistance program.
- Commercially insured patients can reduce their copay to as low as $0/month with the AbbVie Complete Savings Card — one of the most generous copay programs in the industry.
- Medicare and Medicaid patients may qualify for the myAbbVie Assist PAP if they meet income guidelines.
ClariMeds will determine which free program for Humira fits your situation and handle the entire enrollment process at no charge to you.
What Does Humira Treat?
Humira is FDA-approved for a wide range of inflammatory and autoimmune conditions:
- Rheumatoid arthritis (RA) in adults — to reduce signs and symptoms and slow joint damage
- Psoriatic arthritis in adults
- Moderate-to-severe plaque psoriasis in adults
- Crohn's disease in adults and children (ages 6 and up)
- Ulcerative colitis in adults and children (ages 5 and up)
- Ankylosing spondylitis (a type of spinal arthritis)
- Juvenile idiopathic arthritis (JIA) in children ages 2 and up
- Uveitis (inflammatory eye disease) in adults and children
- Hidradenitis suppurativa (a chronic skin condition) in adults and adolescents
How Humira Works
Humira works by targeting and neutralizing TNF-alpha, a substance in the immune system that causes inflammation. In autoimmune diseases, the immune system mistakenly attacks healthy tissue, causing chronic inflammation. By blocking TNF, Humira reduces inflammation, relieves symptoms, and can slow or halt the progression of joint damage. It is given as a subcutaneous (under-the-skin) injection, typically every other week.
