Linzess (linaclotide) was developed for the treatment of digestive disorders such as irritable bowel syndrome with constipation (IBS-C) and chronic idiopathic constipation. It relieves the symptoms of IBS-C and chronic constipation, which includes abdominal bloating, abdominal pain, discomfort during bowel movements, and feeling as though bowel movements are incomplete.

Taking Linzess carries a risk of dehydration in adults and children, and it is not prescribed for children under age six. This medication has not been tested on pregnant women, and levels of breast milk excretion are unknown.

Linzess is taken in the morning at least 30 minutes prior to the first meal of the day. It is important to swallow the capsule whole, but if that is not possible, the contents of the capsule can be emptied out into a spoonful of applesauce or water.
