Nucynta

by Johnson & Johnson

Nucynta is a prescription opioid analgesic for moderate to severe pain available through the Johnson & Johnson Patient Assistance Program.

Nucynta (tapentadol) is a centrally acting opioid analgesic with a dual mechanism of action — it binds to mu-opioid receptors and also inhibits norepinephrine reuptake — approved for the management of moderate to severe acute pain in adults (immediate-release form) and severe chronic pain including diabetic peripheral neuropathy (extended-release form, Nucynta ER). Tapentadol's norepinephrine reuptake inhibition may provide pain relief at lower opioid receptor activity than purely opioid-based analgesics, potentially reducing some opioid-class side effects. As a Schedule II controlled substance, it requires a DEA-compliant prescription.
