Prezista

by Johnson & Johnson

Prezista is an oral HIV protease inhibitor for treatment-naïve and treatment-experienced patients, available through the J&J Patient Assistance Program.

Prezista (darunavir) is an HIV-1 protease inhibitor approved for the treatment of HIV-1 infection in treatment-naïve and treatment-experienced adults and pediatric patients ages 3 and older. It is used in combination with cobicistat or low-dose ritonavir (as a pharmacokinetic booster) and other antiretroviral agents. Darunavir works by binding tightly to the HIV protease enzyme, preventing the cleavage of viral polyproteins that are required to produce mature, infectious virus particles. It is taken once daily (with cobicistat) for treatment-naïve and certain experienced patients, or twice daily in others, with food.
