Rinvoq

by AbbVie

Rinvoq (upadacitinib) can cost over $50,000/year without coverage. AbbVie's myAbbVie Assist and Rinvoq Complete Savings Card programs provide free or low-cost access for qualifying patients.

Rinvoq (upadacitinib) is a once-daily oral medication made by AbbVie. Unlike most biologics (which are injected), Rinvoq is a JAK inhibitor — a pill that works by blocking Janus kinase (JAK) enzymes inside cells, interrupting the signaling pathways that lead to inflammation in autoimmune conditions.

Without insurance, Rinvoq can cost more than $50,000 per year. AbbVie provides two main programs to help patients afford Rinvoq.

How to Afford Rinvoq

  • Uninsured patients who meet income requirements can receive Rinvoq at no cost through myAbbVie Assist.
  • Commercially insured patients can pay as little as $0/month with the Rinvoq Complete Savings Card.
  • Underinsured patients facing high deductibles or coverage gaps may also be eligible for additional support.

ClariMeds will identify the right free program for Rinvoq based on your coverage and income, and submit the application on your behalf.

What Does Rinvoq Treat?

Rinvoq is FDA-approved for adults with:

  • Moderate-to-severe rheumatoid arthritis (RA) — after at least one TNF inhibitor has failed
  • Active psoriatic arthritis (PsA)
  • Moderate-to-severe atopic dermatitis (eczema) — in adults and adolescents 12 and older
  • Active ankylosing spondylitis
  • Active non-radiographic axial spondyloarthritis
  • Moderate-to-severe Crohn's disease
  • Moderate-to-severe ulcerative colitis

How Rinvoq Works

JAK enzymes (JAK1, JAK2, JAK3, and TYK2) are intracellular proteins that relay signals from cell-surface receptors to the nucleus, triggering genes that produce inflammatory cytokines. Rinvoq preferentially inhibits JAK1, which plays a central role in multiple inflammatory pathways. By blocking JAK1 signaling, Rinvoq reduces the production of inflammatory molecules without the need for injection — an important convenience advantage over biologic therapies.
