Risperdal Consta

by Johnson & Johnson

Risperdal Consta is a biweekly long-acting injectable antipsychotic for schizophrenia and bipolar I disorder, available through the J&J Patient Assistance Program.

Risperdal Consta (risperidone) is a long-acting injectable (LAI) formulation of risperidone, an atypical antipsychotic, approved for schizophrenia and as monotherapy or adjunctive therapy to lithium or valproate for the maintenance treatment of bipolar I disorder in adults. It is administered as a deep intramuscular or subcutaneous injection every two weeks, improving medication adherence for patients who struggle with daily oral regimens. Because the microsphere formulation takes several weeks to reach therapeutic levels, oral risperidone supplementation is required for the first three weeks after the first injection.
