Skyrizi

by AbbVie

Skyrizi (risankizumab) can cost $60,000+ per year without coverage. AbbVie's myAbbVie Assist program offers free Skyrizi for qualifying uninsured patients. Learn how to afford Skyrizi.

Skyrizi (risankizumab) is a biologic medication made by AbbVie. It belongs to a class of drugs called IL-23 inhibitors, which work by selectively blocking interleukin-23 (IL-23), a protein that drives the overactive immune response responsible for inflammation in several chronic conditions.

Without insurance, Skyrizi can cost more than $60,000 per year — making it one of the most expensive biologics on the market. AbbVie offers two major programs to help patients afford Skyrizi.

How to Afford Skyrizi

  • Uninsured patients who meet income requirements may receive Skyrizi at no cost through myAbbVie Assist, AbbVie's manufacturer patient assistance program.
  • Commercially insured patients can reduce their out-of-pocket costs to as little as $0/month through the Skyrizi Complete Savings Card.
  • Medicare patients may be eligible for myAbbVie Assist if income guidelines are met.

What Does Skyrizi Treat?

Skyrizi is FDA-approved for:

  • Moderate-to-severe plaque psoriasis in adults — as a once-per-quarter injection (after two starter doses)
  • Active psoriatic arthritis (PsA) in adults
  • Moderate-to-severe Crohn's disease in adults
  • Moderate-to-severe ulcerative colitis in adults

How Skyrizi Works

IL-23 is a protein produced by the immune system that triggers downstream inflammation pathways involved in autoimmune conditions. Unlike older biologics that block both IL-12 and IL-23, Skyrizi specifically targets the p19 subunit of IL-23 only, leaving the IL-12 pathway intact. This selective approach reduces inflammation with a more focused mechanism and allows for quarterly dosing after the initial induction — one of the least frequent injection schedules among biologics.
