Vraylar

by AbbVie

Vraylar (cariprazine) can cost $1,500–$2,000/month without coverage. AbbVie's myAbbVie Assist offers free Vraylar for qualifying patients. Learn how to afford Vraylar.

Vraylar (cariprazine) is a once-daily oral medication made by AbbVie. It is an atypical antipsychotic that partially activates dopamine D3 and D2 receptors in the brain, helping to correct the imbalanced dopamine signaling that contributes to schizophrenia and bipolar disorder.

Without insurance, Vraylar costs between $1,500 and $2,000 per month. AbbVie offers assistance programs to make Vraylar more affordable for qualifying patients.

How to Afford Vraylar

  • Uninsured patients who meet income requirements may qualify for free Vraylar through myAbbVie Assist.
  • Commercially insured patients can reduce their monthly copay through the Vraylar Savings Card.

ClariMeds evaluates your eligibility for both programs and handles the enrollment paperwork on your behalf.

What Does Vraylar Treat?

Vraylar is FDA-approved for:

  • Schizophrenia in adults
  • Acute manic or mixed episodes associated with Bipolar I Disorder in adults
  • Bipolar depression (depressive episodes associated with Bipolar I Disorder) in adults
  • Adjunctive treatment of major depressive disorder (MDD) in adults — used alongside an antidepressant

How Vraylar Works

Unlike older antipsychotics that fully block dopamine receptors, Vraylar is a partial agonist — it partially activates the D3 and D2 receptors, effectively acting as a stabilizer. When dopamine activity is too high (as in mania or psychosis), Vraylar blunts the signal; when it is too low (as in depression), Vraylar provides a moderate boost. Vraylar also has activity at serotonin receptors, which contributes to its antidepressant effects. Its long half-life (up to a week for its active metabolite) means it provides stable blood levels with once-daily dosing.
