Wellbutrin XL

by GlaxoSmithKline (GSK)

Wellbutrin XL is an extended-release antidepressant for major depressive disorder and seasonal affective disorder available through the GSK Patient Assistance Program.

What is Wellbutrin XL?

Wellbutrin XL (bupropion hydrochloride extended-release) is a norepinephrine-dopamine reuptake inhibitor (NDRI) antidepressant approved for:

  • Major depressive disorder (MDD) in adults
  • Seasonal affective disorder (SAD) in adults

Unlike many antidepressants, bupropion does not cause significant weight gain or sexual side effects, making it a common choice when those factors are concerns. It is taken once daily. Bupropion is also marketed as Zyban for smoking cessation at a different dose.
