Zyban

by GlaxoSmithKline (GSK)

Zyban is an FDA-approved prescription aid for quitting smoking available through the GSK Patient Assistance Program.

What is Zyban?

Zyban (bupropion hydrochloride sustained-release) is an FDA-approved prescription medication to help adults quit smoking. It works by reducing nicotine withdrawal symptoms and cravings through its action on norepinephrine and dopamine pathways in the brain — the same pathways affected by nicotine. Unlike nicotine replacement therapy, Zyban contains no nicotine. Treatment is started 1–2 weeks before the target quit date and typically continued for 7–12 weeks. It may also be used in combination with nicotine replacement therapy.
